The Kauri Rescue team recently spent a day helping Karekare landowner Richard Gray treat a large number of sick kauri. Richard has an incredible property of mature taraire, puriri and kauri forest that is completely undeveloped and runs adjacent to the Waitākere Ranges Regional Park, so it is incredibly important from an ecological point of view, and stunningly beautiful.

Some of Richard’s kauri are quite large and we treated one that was over 5m in circumference! An enormous and very special taonga tree – we don’t see many like that!

Huge thanks to our hardworking Ambassadors Guenter, Sarah and Chervelle plus Kauri Rescue staff Avril and Mels – and to Richard for looking after his kauri and beautiful bush. We will be back next summer to tackle the next area of this large property.
